Michele Cacho-Negrete is a former social worker who lives in Maine and works with students both on-line and in person. Her essay “Last Winter” was chosen by the Union of Concerned Scientists to appear in their Anthology Thoreau's Legacy. She is also in the anthology The Mysterious Life of The Heart. Two of her essays have been selected as one of the 100 most notable of the year, she has received five Pushcart Prize nominations, UTNE Magazine cited her essay “In My Back Yard” as an example of great writing, and four of her essays are used in college literary courses.
