JoeAnn Hart is the author of the novels Float and Addled. Her short fiction, essays, and articles have appeared in a wide variety of publications, including Litro, Orion magazine, and the anthology Black Lives Have Always Mattered. The essay “The Ferguson” is based on material from a forthcoming memoir by Hart from the University of Iowa Press, to be published in 2019.
