Kent Nelson has published four novels and six story collections, and he and his daughter edited Birds in the Hand (North Point Press), an anthology of poems and stories about birds. His story collection, The Spirit Bird, won the Drue Heinz Literature Prize, and his novel Land That Moves, Land That Stands Still, won the Mountain and Plains Booksellers Award. Another novel, Language in the Blood, won the Edward Abbey Eco-Fiction Award. Many of his stories have received prizes and have been in anthologies— Pushcart, O. Henry, and The Best American Short Stories. He is an avid birder and a life-long athlete. He played varsity tennis and ice hockey at Yale, was later ranked #6 in 45+ U.S. squash, and has twice run the Pikes Peak Marathon. He lives in Ouray, Colorado.
