Maija Rothenberg turned to creative nonfiction in earnest after retiring from a 28-year career in Chicago as an independent medical and business writer/editor. Her four grandparents emigrated from Finland to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where she was raised in a village on Lake Superior. A former instructor in the University of Chicago Publishing Program, she is writing an essay collection about surviving a Northern Gothic girlhood and converting to Judaism at age 50. Her poetry has appeared in The Bear River Review.
