Melanie Brooks is a writer, teacher, and mother living in Nashua, New Hampshire, with her husband, two children, and yellow Lab. She grew up in the Canadian Maritimes, and the deep ties to water and rugged spaces that live in her are rooted in that background. She holds an MFA in creative nonfiction from the University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast MFA program. She teaches college writing in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Her almost-completed memoir explores the devastating impact of living with the ten-year secret of her father’s HIV disease before his death in 1995. During this memoir-writing journey, she connected with contemporary memoirists to unpack how they survived writing through their painful stories. These frank conversations comprise her forthcoming book with Beacon Press, Writing Hard Stories. Connect with her at: melaniebrooks.com.
