Phillip Freeman is a practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who graduated from the GrubStreet Novel Incubator. His writing for Hippo Reads and JSTOR Daily included Lie Down on the Couch, Virtually, cited by BBC Future as Best of the Web. He has been a commentator and consultant to theater productions and films in Boston and New York for many years. His play, The Witches of Macbeth, received staged readings by The Actors Shakespeare Project and the PsychDrama Company. His book, Adaptations, was a collection of ten years of monologues he performed in the Boston area satirizing responses to crises in the professions. He received an MD from Columbia University and has had faculty appointments at the Harvard and Boston University medical schools, as well as the Boston Psychoanalytic Society & Institute. The excerpt appearing in Solstice is taken from his debut novel, Most Things Don’t Happen, for which he is seeking representation.
