Sophia Kornienko
Sophia (Sofiya) Kornienko, working as nienko / ニエンコ, is a Boston-based animation director and visual journalist. After years as a professional broadcast journalist, she now works across experimental animation and graphic nonfiction.
Her work explores the intersection of intimate life, social crisis, and contemporary visual culture. As a mother of two trans teens, she considers trans representation, trans voices, and youth digital freedom central to her work.
She is currently an MFA candidate in Visual Narrative at Boston University’s College of Fine Arts. She earned her MA in Moving Image from the University of Amsterdam and holds a certificate in Visual Storytelling & Comic Arts from Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
