In our FALL/WINTER ISSUE, the pieces range from James Cho’s story of a disturbed father/son relationship, to Steven Huff’s rollicking novel excerpt about two seedy crooks, to Cruz Medina’s story of rock music and prejudice, to Dzvinia Orlowsky’s haunting prose poem, to Robert’s Lietz’s experimental poem, to Jina Ortiz’s poetic Puerto Rican beauty queen, to two memoir excerpts–Millicent Monks’ about mental illness and Michael Steinberg’s about the marital cost of sports–to other equally fine pieces.
WITH THIS ISSUE, WE RENEW our commitment to our mission as a nonprofit. Over the last year, we have published writing by authors with many books and awards along with work by up-and-coming writers, and also work by writers on the margins–an Iraqi war vet, a prisoner on death row, a former documented migrant worker, and others. We have published writing by Africans and African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, and Caucasians. We promote diversity–ethnic, racial, political, and cultural.
THIS YEAR WE MADE NOMINATIONS for Best of the Web and the Pushcart Prizes. In the spring, we’ll again host our annual cash prize literary contest. We’ll also have a table at the 2011 AWP conference in Washington D.C. Check our Archives for previous issues. Read SOLSTICE and probe into the human condition.
