Lena (Sunada-Matsumura) Newlin

Lena (Sunada-Matsumura) Newlin is a fourth-generation Japanese American, a fourth-generation Wyomingite, and a descendant of Japanese Americans incarcerated on the basis of their race during WWII at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. Her writings on race, identity, and culture are inspired by her family history as well as her experiences living and traveling internationally. Her first publication is included in the 10th Anniversary Anthology of DoveTales: A Writing for Peace Literary Journal of the Arts. She is a member of the Fall 2021 cohort of Roots. Wounds. Words. Penning My Pieces Writers’ Workshop, and is working on a book about her family history.
