Graphic Lit Editor’s Note

by Drai Whitted

Dear readers,

Whether you are new to comics, an avid fan, or anywhere in between, we have something for you in our first ever contest issue featuring Graphic Lit. We were pleasantly surprised to have entries spanning the globe, some from as far as Australia! Besides that, the range of styles, subjects, and points of view were incredible, and we heartily thank all who participated.

Guest judge Franklin Einspruch, has selected, Inside by Ansis Puriņš as our inaugural contest winner. Ansis is a Boston area artist, and Xeric Foundation grant winner. Franklin had this to say about the winning piece:

“The winning entry shows great aplomb at using the comics syntax for all it’s worth, as it meditates on both literal and figurative interiors and exteriors. Its combination of narrative, thought, and dramatic environment simply could not be expressed in another medium. Even via its lighthearted style, it is conveying something profound.”

Beyond that we bring you two finalists, Prologue from The Sheridan Memoirs by Lynn Von Sien and Group Text by Kyle Harabedian, as well as two Editors’ Picks,  Isis: A Cat by Marc Wilson, and I Was Here by Mariah Burton Nelson.

We are proud and pleased to offer you these pieces and welcome your comments and appreciate your shares and likes.
