Dear readers,
I write this note in the late fall before the election results and as the virus revives. Once again we turn inward to what sustains us, such as literature, art, but also activism as we take a stand against oppression.
For twelve years, Solstice Magazine has merged literary excellence and cultural relevance. We have promoted the diversity of religions, races, socioeconomic classes, genders, sexual orientations, national origins, and ages.
We publish writers, photographers, and graphic lit artists from those on the margins to emerging to established voices.
We extend deep gratitude to our devoted editors who make our literary activism possible; in Nonfiction, Richard Hoffman; In Poetry, Iain Haley Pollock, Artress Bethany White, and Robbie Gamble; in Poetry-in-Translation, Barbara Siegel Carlson and Ewa Chrusciel; and in Graphic Lit, Andrai Whitted.
Please read the individual genre Editors’ Notes to learn about the specific writers in this issue.
Also, please check out photographer Lou Jones’ website with his new series pandemicboston which includes this issue’s cover image: Mike Portrait.
With the new year, we welcome a new Co-Editor-in-Chief, Brenda Sparks Prescott, who will enrich our magazine with her creativity as a novelist, her astute organizational abilities, and her vision for social justice.
So this publication will be renewed during the time of the Solstice.
Lee Hope
